Running on fumes, but still claimed the checker! After qualifying with a fifth place starting position and suffering through a missed pit stop, the #60 KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang GT4, driven by Kyle Marcelli and Nate Stacy, earned the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge GS class victory, in the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park 120, on July 7.
Ontario native Kyle Marcelli takes the blame for a miscommunication on the radio that caused him to miss the pit entrance, during a mid-race caution. With no other options, the team went into fuel conservation mode and managed to hold on to their lead long enough to cross the finish line in first place, at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. But the fuel situation was so close that they literally ran out of gas, on the way to victory lane! Yikes!
Their win at CTMP is the third of the 2018 season for the #60 KohR Motorsports Mustang GT4, and it's their fourth consecutive podium finish! The win at CTMP puts them into the 2018 season points lead.
Coming in close behind them, in second place, was the #80 AWA Racing Ford Mustang GT4, driven by Brett Sandberg and Martin Barkey. This was the best finish so far, for the #80 Mustang, and served as some welcome redemption, after earning the pole but being forced to retire early from damage sustained in a mid-race incident, at the Watkins Glen race.
All of the Mustang GT4s competing at the highest levels of American road racing are currently racing on Forgeline's one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheel, including the #60 and #80 Mustang GT4s from KohR Motorsports and AWA Racing.
