Forgeline Teams Dominate World Challenge Podium at Portland

It was another exciting weekend of Pirelli World Challenge Championship racing, on July 14-15, at Portland  International Raceway, where some of the world’s fastest road racing teams put their Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels to the test, on track, and sprayed champagne, on the podium!

Leading the charge was the #50 Panoz Avezzano, driven by Ian James and Matt Keegan. Though they qualified several rows back in 5th place, for the start of Saturday’s race, the Panoz team was still carrying momentum, from their dizzying success at Road America. And when slower race traffic got in the way of race leader Harry Gottsacker’s SIN R1, James seized the opportunity, made the pass for the lead, and hung on for the GTS class win. Twelve seconds behind them was the #1 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R. Driven by Andy Pilgrim and 2017 season champion Lawson Aschenbach, the #1 Camaro crossed the line in third place to complete Saturday's GTS podium.

The heart-pounding racing action continued again on Sunday, where the #50 Panoz Avezzano started on the front row, in 2nd place. But thanks in part to some smart pit strategy by the Racers Edge Motorsports team, Gottsacker’s SIN R1 proved too fast to catch, and the Ian James/Matt Keegan duo was forced to settle for a second place finish. A few seconds behind them was #55 PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4, driven by Jade Buford and Scott Maxwell, who rounded out the GTS podium in third. Finishing 7th overall and winning the Amateur division was Preston Calvert, driving the #51 Panoz Avezzano.

Finishing fourth in the Pro/Am division, in both races, was the #11 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R driven by Tony Gaples and Michael Cooper, marking the best weekend yet for Tony and the #11 car!

Congrats to Ian, Matt, Preston, Lawson, Andy, Tony, Michael, Jade, Scott, and the entire Panoz. Blackdog, & PF Racing teams for another successful weekend of professional road racing. And thanks for trusting Forgeline to carry the load!

The entire Pirelli World Challenge Championships field returns to action again on August 10-12, at Utah Motorsports Campus.
