For the first time since 2019, Canadian Marco Signoretti returned to Donington Park last month (May 2022) for the British GT Championship. Marco teamed up with Matt Cowley to race the #61 Academy Motorsport Ford Mustang GT4 on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GS1R wheels, and the pair was rewarded with a win!

Marco qualified their Ford Mustang GT4 on the fourth spot on the grid and would start the race. But the three hour race format included three mandatory driver changes, which meant that Marco and Matt would each get two turns behind the wheel.

The team knew that maintaining a smart pace (fast enough to be competitive, but cautious enough to preserve tires and brakes) would be key, since the Donington Park circuit is notoriously rough on brakes. Fortunately, the design of the Forgeline GS1R wheel is a contributing factor to the Mustang GT4’s superior brake cooling capability, which allowed the #61 Mustang to maintain consistent trouble free laps. (Their closest competitor, an Aston Martin, was not so fortunate, as its brakes literally caught fire during its final pit stop.)

Thanks to some great driving, reliable equipment, and fast pit stops, Marco was able to take over the lead during his second stint behind the wheel. This allowed Matt to take over his final turn in the lead, where he held on to take the checkered flag for the win.

“I am so grateful to gain experience from these races in British GT. I want to thank the team Academy Motorsports for their flawless performance all weekend and Multimatic Motorsports for giving me the opportunity to race overseas,” said an ecstatic Marco on victory lane.
