Hennessey Venom F5 Sets New 221.92mph Production Car Half-Mile Record

The team at Hennessey Performance set a new 221.92mph Production Car half-mile speed record in July, with their incredible Venom F5 Coupe hypercar on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GT1 5-Lug wheels.

The Hennessey team was conducting routine half-mile acceleration tests in less-than-ideal conditions, including a dusty, unprepped surface and 80 to 90-degree Fahrenheit temperatures, when Hennessey Special Vehicles Founder and CEO John Hennessey piloted the Venom F5 Coupe to a standing half-mile speed of 219.07 mph. During that same test session, Hennessey test driver David Donohue went even faster with a 221.92 mph pass. Both efforts were recorded via Racelogic VBOX satellite telemetry and backed-up by Dragy performance data.

Remarkably, the Hennessey engineers had not set out to achieve such a high speed, during the routine test, and they only discovered the number when later reviewing VBOX performance data. The data also revealed a phenomenal rate of acceleration from 100 to 200 mph in just 6.81 seconds.

Hennessey’s half-mile testing update came just days after YouTube creator Steve Hamilton pitted a Rimac Nevera and Bugatti Chiron Super Sport against each other in a drag race. Speed data from that test showed the Venom F5 was 15 mph faster than the Nevera (206.77 mph) in the standing half mile and a staggering 28 mph ahead of the Chiron (193.67 mph) over the same distance. And it is the Hennessey team's second record of 2024, following their Production Car lap record on March 11 at Circuit of the Americas, where Hennessey's in-house test driver David Donohue piloted the Venom F5 Revolution to a blistering telemetry-verified 2:10.90 lap of the 3.41-mile-long racetrack.

“This was my first opportunity to pilot our Venom F5 beyond 200 mph while testing," said John Hennessey. "I did not intend to go so fast, but I was not surprised, as our hypercar’s power and acceleration cannot be described in words. Our test driver, David Donahue, may even have achieved a World Record speed for the distance, I’m not aware of any other production car going that speed. We will go back to NASA later this year when its cooler, as I expect the F5 to be even faster.”

Hennessey's Venom F5 Coupe is powered by a 1,817 bhp twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 packaged within a lightweight carbon-fiber structure with a total curb weight of just 2998 lbs. It rides on AP Racing brakes with carbon-ceramic discs, street-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, and exceptionally-strong 19x9.5/20x12 Forgeline one piece forged monoblock GT1 5-Lug wheels that are capable of handling these extreme kinetic loads.
