In the 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge America season, DXDT Racing arrived late to the party with their pair of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R race cars on Forgeline one piece forged monoblock SS1R-GT wheels, but a nearly perfect weekend at Barber Motorsports Park--where they scored their 7th and 8th consecutive Pro class wins and their 2nd Pro-Am class win--has moved them within striking distance of the championship.
DXDT's weekend at Barber started with a fast qualifying effort by Alec Udell, who put the No.63 DXDT Corvette GT3.R on the pole for the start of Saturday's race. Alec took the green flag and maintained a comfortable lead on the rest of the field, racing to the driver change pit stop without challenge. When Tommy Milner took over, he at first seemed to be on pace to enjoy a similar run all alone at the front. However, Kenton Koch was tracking down the DXDT Corvette and turning some of the fastest laps of the race, in the No.99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3. He soon caught Milner, and the two raced nose-to-tail for much of the second half of the race. But Milner was unfazed by the challenge and held off Koch's BMW to claim team DXDT's seventh consecutive Pro class win.
Saturday's Pro-Am field was dominated for much of the race by the No.91 Regulator Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3, driven by Phillip Ellis and Jeff Burton. But DXDT's Bryan Sellers had been closing the gap, ever since the handoff from teammate Bryson Morris, in the No.64 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R. With just three minutes left to race, Bryan made his move on the Mercedes and stole the lead from Burton. Three minutes later, Bryan took the checkered flag to earn DXDT's second Pro-Am win of the 2024 season.
Sunday's Pro class race saw the No.99 Random Vandals Racing BMW M4 GT3 driven by Kenton Koch jump into an early lead over Tommy Milner in the No.63 DXDT Racing Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R. But DXDT had a faster pit stop during the driver change, allowing Alec Udell to narrow the gap between he and Conor Daly in the No.99 BMW. When a full-course caution bunched up the field, Alec was close behind in second place. When Daly was forced to bring the BMW in for fuel, Alec moved into the lead and finished up front, giving DXDT Racing their eighth consecutive Pro class win and moving them within just seven points of the 2024 championship.
"It was very hard today, for sure,” said Tommy Milner. “We got lucky at the start. I got hit twice on the left-rear and thought something was broken or wrong, but I think the track was just super-dirty. We were lucky to get away with that one. As we expected, we weren't the fastest car. Alec did a great job and we had a great pit stop. This DXDT team just excels in every area. I'm really proud to be part of this race team and to drive this Corvette Z06 GT3.R. Everyone keeps asking about the championship and I didn't want to talk about it for a long time. But after today for us, things are falling into our hands. Now it's a discussion, and I'm happy to go to Indy with a good chance to win it."
The last race of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS 2024 season is the coveted Indy 8 Hour, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on October 5-6. Points are doubled at the Indy finale, giving DXDT Racing a viable shot at the championship.
Congratulations to Tommy, Alec, Bryan, Bryson, and the entire DXDT Racing team, and thank you for the trust that you’ve placed in Forgeline!
