DXDT Racing took their pair of Forgeline-equipped Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 GT3.R race cars to Virginia International Raceway over the July 20-21 weekend for the third and fourth rounds of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS, where they took back-to-back wins in GT Pro and scored their first podium of the 2024 season in GT Pro-Am.
Their weekend started with a successful qualifying session, when Alec Udell turned the fastest lap to put the No.63 Corvette GT3.R on the pole for Saturday's GT Pro race, and Tommy Milner's fast lap ensured that the No.63 Corvette would start at the front for Sunday's GT Pro race too.
At the start of Saturday's 90-minute race, DXDT's Alec Udell was immediately challenged by Bill Auberlen in the No.28 ST Racing BMW M4 GT3, relegating the No.63 Corvette to second place. But with 50 minutes remaining in the race, Tommy Milner took over and quickly reclaimed the lead. Despite multiple cautions and restarts, Tommy never looked back and drove the No.63 DXDT Racing Corvette to the checkered flag to claim the team's third GT Pro win of the 2024 season.
After starting on the pole again for Sunday's race, Tommy Milner jumped to the front of the field. He enjoyed a clear view for the first 30 minutes of racing, but a full-course caution bunched up the field. When the pits opened, most teams used the opportunity to make their required driver changes, where congestion on the pit lane caused the DXDT team to lose their lead. As a result, Alec Udell took over in second place and briefly fell to third behind Spencer Pumpelly's No.85 RS1 Porsche 992 GT3 R. Alec regained second place a few laps later, and with 20 minutes of racing remaining, he made his move to regain the lead from the No.120 Wright Motorsports Porsche 992 GT3 R. Alec then took the checkered flag to claim back-to-back GT Pro wins for DXDT and their fourth win of the 2024 season.
A few cars back, DXDT Racing's No.8 Corvette GT3.R driven by Scott Smithson and Bryan Sellers finished third in the Pro-Am class, giving DXDT their first Pro-Am podium of the 2024 season.
“A lot of things happened in the race,” said Alec Udell. “There was a lot of action, I'm breathing heavier than I was yesterday. Tommy had a great stint, mine was a little less clean than his, but it was nice to get the car passed off. There were a little bit of miscues by some other teams that backed us up in the pit lane, but there was nothing we could really do about that. Then we were just fighting through to the front as much as we could in the end there.”
Based on the Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 and sharing the road car’s aluminum chassis, the Corvette GT3.R is powered by a version of the Z06’s 5.5L DOHC LT6 V8 engine mated to a 6-speed sequential transmission. It rides on a motorsports-specific double-wishbone suspension system that was engineered for optimal performance at lower racing ride heights and a motorsports-specific 6-piston front/4-piston rear braking system with unique cooling and quick-change capabilities.
The Corvette GT3.R's engineering and manufacturing partners at Pratt Miller Engineering worked with the team at Forgeline Motorsports for several years to develop an application-specific version of Forgeline’s center-locking one piece forged monoblock SS1R-GT wheel that was engineered to deliver optimized performance metrics (in terms of mass, deflection, strength, and durability) specifically for the new Corvette GT3.R. Each Chevrolet C8 Corvette Z06 GT3.R sold by Chevrolet anywhere across the globe will compete on 18×12.5/18×13 Forgeline one piece forged monoblock SS1R-GT wheels finished in Gloss Black.
Congratulations to Tommy, Alec, Bryan, Scott, and the entire DXDT Racing team, and thank you for the trust that you’ve placed in Forgeline!
